FT. PIERCE, Fl – The Hilbert College baseball split their final set a games against Geneva College this afternoon. The Hawks fell short in their 8-5 defeat but regrouped and claimed a 7-1 victory over the Tornados, improving to 3-5 overall.
Geneva posted their only run in the second game in the first inning. Hilbert rallied for three runs in the bottom of the fourth and four more in the 6th.
Henry Bowers picked up his second win on the mound tossing a two-hitter while striking out two with an earned run in a complete game.
Dalton Reynolds (2) and
Ryan Bonafede (double) earned the Hawk's RBIs in the fourth inning. The sixth inning saw
Michael Voveris' single 2RBI,
Izaiah Diaz' sac fly and
Ian Moran's single knock in the runs.
Earlier in the day, Hilbert and Geneva were knotted at 2-2 through the first two innings. The Tornadoes collected five runs over the third and fourth and led 7-2 by the top of the 5th. The Hawks found a pair of runs in the 6th but that was all they could muster in the 8-5 defeat.
Eric Flores went 3 for 4 with a stolen base and
Michael Best hit the Hawks' only multi base shot.
Ryan Bonafede knocked in two of Hilbert's five runs.
Hilbert steps back on the Florida soil one last time tomorrow when they challenge SUNY Maritime at 1pm before their long trip back to Western New York.
