Cleveland Dominates as Panthers Pick Up Two at Buttermaker Classic

Allentown, Pa. -- Emily Cleveland had a dominant evening for the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford Volleyball team, as they picked up two straight-set victories at the Buttermaker Classic, hosted by Muhlenberg College.

The Panthers started the tournament by breezing to a 3-0 win over Penn State-Abington. The Panthers won the first set 25-11, the second 25-9, and breezed to a third set win 25-14.

Cleveland was electric for the Panthers as she put down 18 kills on 22 swings, putting up an incredible .773 hitting percentage. She also averaged 1 service ace and 3 digs in the contest. Kaitlyn Sexton also had a strong performance, recording 7 kills on 17 attempts and joining in on two blocks. 

Tabitha Walker had another strong effort at the setter position. She recorded 28 assists in the three sets and had 5 kills on 7 attempts. Defensively, Kayla Maslowski led with 15 digs. Stephanie Carson also had a double-digit kill match, tallying 12. She also had a strong serving rally at one point in the match, serving the Panthers to 12 straight points.

In the second match of the evening, the Panthers took on Neumann University. The Panthers opened up with a 25-19 set one victory, then put up back-to-back 25-18 sets in the second and third to close the match.

Cleveland once again led the offense, once again recording 18 kills, this time on 27 attempts. She had two more service aces, 2 digs, and was a part of 4 blocks. Olivia Reese had her most efficient match of the young season, tallying 9 kills on 19 attacks while only committing one error. This was good for a .421 hitting percentage.

Walker added 34 more assists in the game, and also recorded 12 digs. Maslowski and Carson each had 16 digs in the contest, while Eve Brink also finished in double digits with 10. Jordan Sitler and Sexton each had 3 Blocks in the game, while Taylor King added 2 more.

The Panthers are now 4-3 on the season. They will be back in action tomorrow morning, as they take on Gallaudet University at 10:00 a.m. and follow that up with a match against Cedar Crest at noon.
