Phillips Leads Women's Volleyball at Behrend Invitational

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's volleyball team finished their home invitational with a 2-1 record, defeating Geneva 3-2 in the first match on Saturday before falling to Grove City, 3-2.

Noteworthy:

* Junior outside hitter Hannah Phillips (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) was named to the All-Tournament Team
* Phillips had a double-double in each match, totaling 51 kills and 50 digs for three matches

Match One:

Behrend 3, Geneva 2 (25-13, 23-25, 25-23, 15-25, 15-9)
Records: Penn State Behrend (4-2), Geneva (4-3)

Match One:

* The Lions posted a season-high 115 digs in the win
* Sara Nobach (Athens, MI/Athens) had a season-best 28 digs to lead the team
* Phillips tallied 22 digs to go with 15 kills, while Sara Novak (Lower Burrell, PA/Burrell) and Breana Reynolds (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) each tallied 11 kills
* Meg Goodsel (Corry, PA/Corry) managed 26 assists and Bridget Dorr (El Segundo, CA/El Segundo) added 15 assists
* Behrend won the odd sets, only allowing 13 points in the first
* Novak had seven of her 11 kills in the third set to get the Lions a 2-1 lead in the match
* In the fifth set, Phillips hit .625 and collecting six of the team's eight kills and Kelli Hoffer (DuBois, PA/DuBois) made five digs for the win

Match Two:

* As a team, the Lions registered a season-best 64 kills on 186 attempts
* Behrend rallied two sets down to get Grove City to a fifth set
* There were nine ties and five lead changes in the decisive set, resulting in the Wolverines favor and allowing them to go undefeated on the weekend
* Phillips had her best output to date this season with 22 kills
* Brooke Joncas (Corry, PA/Corry) had double-digit kills with a season-high 18 while adding three aces
* Nobach finished the weekend with 48 digs, contributing 20 vs. the Wolverines
* Dorr led the team this match with 29 assists and was one dig short of the double-double at nine
* Freshman outside hitter Madison Sciarrillo saw time in all five sets and had a season-high five kills
