Panthers Blanked by Titans

Kane, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's soccer team hosted the Westminster Titans on Wednesday night in Kane, PA. After holding the Titans to one goal in the first half, they were unable to hold out in the second, allowing the visitors to score four more times, finishing the game with a 5-0 loss.

Evan Schmidt started in between the sticks for the Panthers and made five early saves to keep the game scoreless. The visitors broke through first in the 24th minute, when a half-volleyed shot off of a cross-field pass found the side netting. The Titans continued their attack after the goal, but Schmidt made three more stops to keep the deficit at one.

It would not take long after the halftime break for the next goal to be scored, as the Titans were able to beat Schmidt within a minute after the restart. The Panthers uncorked their first shot of the game in the 55th, as Spencer Sklar found some space in the middle of the pitch and unleashed a left-footed blast that sailed to the right of the goal.

Westminster returned to the attack after the goal, blitzing the Panthers for three more scores in a three-minute span to open up a 5-0 lead. The Panthers' next opportunity came in the 66th minute. Devin Stowe carried the ball upfield and hit a shot from outside of the 18. His hard shot looped over the keeper but was just high of the target, bouncing off of the football goalpost just beyond the goal.

The Panthers tallied three more shots in the half. Bailee VErdill had the first effort which missed the target. Jaden Nye had the best opportunity for the Panthers as he sailed a shot toward the upper left corner, but saw the Titan keeper make a diving save to scupper the opportunity. Max Shaw put one final shot on the target in the 88th.

Evan Schmidt faced 19 shots on goal in the game, making 14 saves. Jaden Nye, Max Shaw, Devin Stowe, Bailee Verdill, and Spencer Sklar all had shots in the game, with only Nye and Shaw's efforts forcing a Westminster save.

The loss drops Pitt-Bradford to 0-4-1 on the season. They hit the road and return to action on Friday, September 15th, when they take on Fredonia. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. at University Field in Fredonia.
