Second Half Surge Lifts Redhawks To Victory Over Thiel 4-3

GREENVILLE, Pa. – La Roche men's soccer used a second half spark to pick up its first win of the season, defeating Thiel 4-3 on the road.

It would be the Tomcats jumping ahead, scoring an early goal, just 11:41 into the contest to take the 1-0 lead.

At 28:56, the Redhawks would respond, as Caden Malek found the back of the net, assisted by Anthony Valerio to even the game 1-1.

Thiel would have the final say before halftime, scoring just 3:18 after La Roche tied the game, to make it a 2-1 score at the break.

Out of halftime, the Redhawks clicked on all cylinders, scoring three unanswered goals to take a 4-2 lead.

Ramadhan Hamis Nkubas scored the first of the half to tie the game 2-2 just 3:32 into the second half, and was followed less than 12 minutes later at 60:23 by Jesus Angel Jimenez. Both goals were unassisted.

The third goal came late at 84:19 when Miles Jackson buried a goal off an assist by Jake Gorman.

The Tomcats would add a final tally to make it 4-3 at 88:06, but La Roche would fend off Thiel over the final 1:54 for the victory.

The final shot total saw the Tomcats outshoot the Redhawks 20-9, with Thiel putting 11 on net and La Roche with seven.

Between the pipes, sophomore goalkeeper Kyle Rizzo faced 11 shots on goal and made eight saves.

Gorman and Jimenez were the team leaders offensively with three shots each, with two shots on target for both as well.

After a two game road swing, the Redhawks return home on Monday, Sept. 18 for a 4 p.m. kickoff as they welcome Westminster to the Baierl Athletic Complex.
