Hawks Celebrate Senior Day With a Win Over Greensburg

HAMBURG, N.Y. Emily Gawlak led the Hilbert College women's basketball team to a 72-52 victory over Pitt-Greensburg by posting her fourth career double-double this afternoon.

The Hawks opened the day with a pregame ceremony to celebrate their senior athletes, Kelsi Ebert and Jenna Castricone, but once the ball went up for the jump ball, Gawlak was all over it.

Hilbert improved to 15-1 in the league, and after Mt. Aloysius suffered a loss at Medaille this afternoon, the Hawks gained a little breathing room has the head to their final week of the regular season schedule.

Jenna Castricone and Kelsi Ebert shared the court with their families before the tip and they exited the game together as the women's basketball team rolled to their 11th consecutive win and their 13th AMCC win in a row.

Emily Gawlak earned more rebounds (17) than points (15) today, her first time dominating the glass.  She had collected 12 points and 11 rebounds by intermission and then helped the hosts play even in the second half.  The sophomore guard was also credited with three assist, two blocked shots and two steals in 35 minutes of action.

Kelsi Ebert led the Hawks with 18 points as she battled foul trouble in the first half.

The Hawks dominating duo in the paint combined for 22 points with Ashley Repine credited with 12 points and eight rebounds.  She earned her three assists in dump-down passes to Katelyn Proy who finished with 10- points and three blocked shots.

The Hawks took a 22-11 lead after the first 10-minutes of action, but it was their second quarter that put the game out of reach.  Hilbert scored 18 more points and limited the Bobcats to just three, setting a 40-14 half time score.

Greensburg played just as tough the final two quarters of the game as they had in the first two and outscored the Hawks 19-17 and 19-15.  Hilbert wasn't as mentally sharp in the second half and committed 13 turnovers which equated into nine Bobcat steals.

The Hawks return to action this week when they travel to Erie, Pa for an 8pm game against Penn State Behrend February 14.  Hilbert claimed a 69-60 victory over the Lions (8-8) January 10th in Hamburg.

The Hawks close the 2017-18 season at Mt. Aloysius next weekend before the 2018 AMCC Championship tournament begins.

Mt. Aloysius and Hilbert have secured their place in the AMCC Semi-Final games as either the #1 or #2 seeded team, but they are battling for the right to host the championship weekend.  With the Mountie loss today, Hilbert has a 2-game edge on Mt. Aloysius who is 13-3.
