Men's Lacrosse Sets New Single Game Record After 15-2 Win At La Roche

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Hilbert College men's lacrosse team got back on the winning track this afternoon with a 15-2 non-conference road win at La Roche College.

James Duffy broke out today with eight points, leading the Hawks with five goals while Edward Mathias chipped in seven points fueled by four goals.

Hilbert dominated the offensive end of the field, with an on-goal 36-8 advantage against La Roche and forced the home keeper into 21 saves.

Goalie Elijah Ryan improved to 2-2 on the season and moved to the top of the NEAC league with a.604 save percent, with a second-best goals against average (9.69).

As a team, Hilbert combined for 25 caused turnovers which established a new program Single Game record dating back to the 2011 season.

Michael Anzalone and Travis Kilanowski posted four caused turnovers each as 10 other Hawks were credited with great defensive hustle.  Ryan Spath (3-6 in face-off, seven ground balls) and Anthony Cappola each added three caused turnovers.

15 different Hawks scoped at least one ground ball as Joshua Maloney led the way with 10 after winning four face offs.

Drew Werner joined Duffy and Mathias as a multi-goal scorer adding two hits and three assists.

Hilbert kept La Roche off the scoreboard in the opening quarter and jumped out to an 8-1 lead after two periods.

Duffy assisted on two of the Hawks first three goals in first quarter and then personally plastered the score board with three consecutive scores wrapped from the end of the first session through the middle of the second quarter.

La Roche found two goals, their first only 34-seconds before intermission and their final at 8:48 in the third.

Hilbert extended their lead with seven second-half goals as Mathias closed the game with three goals and a pair of helpers during the last 30 minutes.

The Hawks return to action at Alfred University mid-week when they travel March 27 for a 4pm face off.
