STEUBENVILLE, OH – Hilbert College gave up three quick goals at the start of the game and found themselves in too big of a hole to dig out of by intermission. 

The Hawks slipped in their opening Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference match to Franciscan University (8-2).

Both Hilbert keepers saw equal minutes between the pipes today, with Ryan Valentine starting the match and leaving at half time with six saves and the loss on his record.  Tucker Reynolds played the final session and was credited with four saves on the road.

Brandon Bundschuh put the Hawks on the score board in the 38th minute with his rocket to the back of the net for his second goal of the season.   The sophomore forward led the Hawks with three shots on goal. But by that time in the game, Franciscan had already built a 5-1 lead going to the break.

Hilbert was credited with a second goal in the contest when a defender from Franciscan deflected the ball past his own goal line in the 57th minute.

Now that AMCC action has started, the Hawks (0-7) also have to think about the Buffalo Cup Series games between Medaille and D'Youville this month.  Hilbert travels to Buffalo this Tuesday, September 26 for their first cross-town rival game against Medaille.  The game is being played at the Dobson Turf Complex at D'Youville College's lower west-side campus at 1pm.
