Ebensburg, PA - The Mount Aloysius men's tennis team dropped two AMCC matches over the weekend as the Mounties lost 9-0 to Franciscan on Saturday before dropping a tough 5-4 decision to Penn State Altoona on Sunday at the Ebensburg Tennis Center.
Against the defending conference champion Barons, the Mounties played well at #1 and #2 doubles but the pairs of
Matt Hample and
Nick Goldyn along with
Nick Centar and
Justin Fleegle each lost 8-4 decisions. Franciscan also swept singles play despite strong play from Goldyn at #4 singles, where he was defeated 7-5, 6-2.
The Mounties took the court again on Sunday afternoon in a critical matchup with Altoona. Mount Aloysius captured two of the three doubles matches. Hample and Goldyn won 8-6 at #1 doubles, and
Aubrey Brown and
Kevin Ouellette were victorious at #3 doubles by a 8-5 scoreline. The Lions responded by taking matches at the first three singles spots before Goldyn won 6-2, 1-6, 7-5 at the #4 spot. Despite another singles victory by
Dylan Matta at #6 singles, the Mounties fell by a final margin of 5-4.
Mount Aloysius falls to 4-5 overall and 1-3 in conference play. They will return to the court on Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. on the road against D'Youville.Â
