Duffy Posts 7 Points In NEAC Win Over Wells

AURORA, N.Y. – The Hilbert College men's lacrosse team evened their North Eastern Athletic Conference record back to .500 after they claimed a 13-8 road win at Wells College this afternoon.

The Hawks posted 23 points as they assisted on 10 of their 13 goals scored.

Joshua Schindler and Edward Mathias combined for 2/3 of Hilbert's scoring punch.  They each collected four goals and a pair of assists while James Duffy trailed in goals (3) but tallied four assists to lead the Hawks with seven points.

Travis Hicks added two assists and shared team-high honors with Grant Stockman (10-15 in face-offs) with six ground balls a piece.  Austin Good (3 ground balls) was very good at disrupting the Express attack as he was credited with five caused turnovers on defense.

Joseph Stevenson finished the day with nine saves to improve to 4-4 in the cage for Hilbert.

Hilbert got on the scoreboard twice in the first ten minutes of the game yet Wells responded and knotted the score by the start of the second quarter.

The Express took their only lead in the game when they beat Hilbert's defense with a goal at 12:26 in the 2nd period.  Hilbert went on a 4-goal run, with Ryan Spath capping of four different players scoring in that stretch.  The Hawks took a 7-5 lead to the sidelines for intermission before they were outscored in the third quarter 3-2.

Hilbert found four more goals (Schindler (2), Marc O'Neill and Mathias) in the fourth quarter and held Wells scoreless in the final 15 minutes for the win.

The 4-5 Hawks will travel to Franciscan University this weekend to battle in an AMCC contest on the road.  Both teams are schedule to face-off at 1:00 pm April 14.
