Hawks Baseball Sweeps Wentworth

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Hilbert College baseball team picked up a pair of wins on Day One of their spring training competition in the Russ Matt Invitational March 3.

The Hawks swept Wentworth Institute of Technology, in two one-run games and improved to 2-1 overall.

Tristan Aldinger led the charge going 4-for-7 with three RBI and three runs scored.

Evan Kraus and Daniel Munn picked up wins on the mound and Jordan Brown collected his first save as a Hawk.

GAME ONE

Wentworth jumped ahead 2-0 after three innings of work.  The Hawks responded in the top of the 4th with a pair of runs but fell behind 3-2 in the bottom of that same inning.

Hilbert manufactured three runs in the top of the 6th, taking a 5-3 lead and Brown held on for his save in the bottom of the seventh.

Griffith DeMayo scored the opening unearned run and Noah Welch made it home off Aldinger's triple in the 4th.

DeMayo's sac fly which scored Ian Moran, started Hilbert's late-game rally. 

Austin O'Shei stole home on the next play and Treyton delaCuesta's double to right field scored Aldinger, lifting Hilbert by a pair of runs.

Zachary Crane, the game's starter, struck out two early in the game.  Kraus took over in the 5th inning and held through four batters in the bottom of the 6th.  Brown closed that inning with his defense pulling out a double play to maintain the two-run lead.

Brown faced six batters in the bottom of the 7th  to ensure the win.

Aldinger went 2-for-3, 1 RBI and one run scored as pinch hitter delaCuesta earned the only other RBI.

GAME TWO

Daniel Munn went four innings, gave up three runs, six base on balls, and struck three out in the win.

The Hawks exploded with six runs in the bottom of the first inning and tacked three more on through the 4th to build a 9-0 lead.

Wentworth got on the score board with three runs in the top of the 5th and closed with five in the top of the 7th, falling short of a come back win.

DeMayo started the game with a triple to right center scoring O'Shei and Benjamin Heilig.  The rest of Hilbert's eight hits in the game with all single baggers. 

Wentworth walked 10 Hawks and Hilbert left 11 runners on base by the final out.

DeMayo wnt 2-for-3 and scored two runs while Aldinger and Jonathan Wilson heard a pair of hits along with two RBI each.

Hilbert (2-1) will battle St. Vincent College in a double header March 4.
