Women's Lacrosse Fall to Mavs

HAMBURG, N.Y. – Hilbert College slipped against the Medaille Mavericks this afternoon in women's lacrosse.  The Hawks dropped a 23-10 NEAC loss to the visiting Mavs (4-2) and fall to 1-5 in league play.

Emily Gawlak led Hilbert with five goals and two assists while winning 14 draw controls.  Marisa Huffman added three goals and shared team-high ground ball honors (4) with Nikki Schneider who posted one goal off a free position shot.

Ashley Repine was credited with 16 saves in the loss for the Hawks.

Medaille jumped out to a 7-goal lead before Hilbert responded with three markers of their own.  Gawlak, Schneider (FPG) and Gormel trimmed the score to 7-3 with 11:30 on the clock but the Mavs went on a 5-1 run before intermission.

The Hawks opened the second half with a 5-2 run setting a 14-9 score, yet the navy blue and white posted five more goals, putting the game away with just over nine minutes to go.

Medaille held a 44-32 advantage in shots (39-24 on-goal) and went 14-19 in clears while the Hawks only attempted eight clears with five completed.  Hilbert won the draw control reset with a 20-15 edge and earned 22 (to 25) ground balls against Medaille.

The Hawks hit the road this weekend for a 2-day NEAC trip.  They will play at Wells on April 22 and then travel to Keuka on April 23.  The women's team will celebrate their seniors Friday, April 28 (SUNY Poly) with a 4pm start.
