Kiefer’s Game Winner Leads Lions Past Chatham, 2-1

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's soccer team notched a strong showing in the second half against Chatham to earn a 2-1 victory Saturday afternoon on the road.

Key Moments:

* Chatham struck first in the 10th minute when Azavier Coppin sent a cross into the box and Mateo Lopez deposited the ball in to the back of the net
* A turning point in the game came with 23 seconds left in the first half, Stephen Comeaux received a red card which would cause the Cougars to play the rest of the game a man-down
* As a result of the card, Zak Schwarzel (South Park, PA/South Park) received a free kick right outside of the box and his shot was deflected by the Cougars' goalkeeper to Brock Kiefer (Eighty-Four, PA/Canon McMillan) who sent another shot towards the net, but that shot was also saved
* Chatham would enter halftime with a 1-0 lead
* Behrend took advantage of the man-up opportunity in the second half, controlling possession for most of the half
* Sophomore Jac Caputo (Pittsburgh, PA/Montour) knotted the score at one with a penalty kick score in the 60th minute for his first goal of the season
* The game-winner for Behrend would come from Kiefer in the 81st minute
* Kiefer fought the ball away from a Chatham defender, crossing the ball off another defender and it would trickle in to the goal for his first collegiate score
* The second half numbers show the constant pressure by the Lions as they outshot the Cougars 11-5
* For the game, Behrend finished with 22 total shots compared to Chatham's 11
* Cole Thomas ( Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) led the Lions with four shots, two of which were on goal
* Chatham's goalkeeper Trevor Rose made eight saves in Saturday's contest
