Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Castricone Makes 18 Saves in 2-1 Loss

HAMBURG, N.Y. – Jenna Castricone had a monster game in goal today for the Hawks, but the Lions from Altoona clawed their way to a 2-1 victory over Hilbert College in women's soccer.

Altoona improved to 4-7 overall and 2-1 in AMCC play while Hilbert suffered their first defeat in two games and dropped to 1-2 in league action an d1-7-1 overall.

Castricone was credited with 18 saves with 12 coming in the second half.

Altoona got on the board in the sixth minute when a blast to the lower left corner off a ball served directly from a corner kick.

Hilbert's Emily Gawlak netted her first collegiate goal in the 25th minute which forced a 1-1 tie almost to intermission.  But Altoona hit a hard shot to the right corner at 43:03 and took the lead to half.

The Hawks had several scoring opportunities in the second period but just couldn't convert;  where on defense, Hilbert was rock solid.  Altoona unleased 21 shots after the break yet didn't score a single goal.
The back line and Castricone locked-down Altoona's Shoshana Mahoney the final 45-minutes after she tallied both goals for the visitors today.

Gina Mallone led the Hilbert charge with five shots followed by Alyssa Siracuse and Gawlak's four each.

The women's soccer team returns to action this week when they welcome Pitt-Bradford to Hamburg for an October 4th, 4:15pm AMCC contest.
