Hawks Post 5th Straight Win

HAMBURG, N.Y. –    The Hilbert College women's basketball team earned their fifth win in a row after defeating Pitt-Greensburg tonight in AMCC action.

THE BASICS
  • Final Score:  Hilbert 58 | Pitt-Greensburg 50
  • Location:   Hafner Recreation Center, Hamburg, NY
  • Records: Hilbert 7-3 (4-1 AMCC) | Greensburg 4-6 (2-3 AMCC)
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Hilbert scored first and never trailed the rest of the game. 
  • The Hawks outscored the Bobcats 14-12 and 20-11 by intermission, but they slipped offensively after the break allowing Greensburg to win the final two quarters by a total of three points (10-9 and 17-5).
  • Emily Gawlak's six points led four Hilbert players in the scorebook after ten minutes.
  • Gawlak again lifted the hosts with another 3-pointer and gave the Hawks their first double figure lead (30-19) at 3:23.  Hilbert again put points on the board with a variety of players contributing in the second quarter.
  • Taylor Corts drilled two 3-pointers and one freebie and Ashley Repine, who returned the hardwood in her first minutes of action this winter, added the other two points in the paint to give the hosts a 10-point lead heading into the final quarter.
  • Hilbert stretched their advantage to 14 points and then went cold from the floor allowing the Bobcats to pull within seven points with over three minutes to go.
  • Gawlak matched Greensburg's previous 3-pointer and lifted the Hawks back on top by 10 as both teams traded hoops the rest of the way.
GAME NOTES
  • Emily Gawlak (18) and Taylor Corts (16) were the most consistent perimeter shooters for Hilbert.
  • Macy Kisner (8 points, 4 steals) fought for every one of her team-high nine rebounds (3 offensive) while Emma Fredo hustled to seven rebounds.
  • The Hawks connected on 23-59 attempts (39.0 percent) and made 7-of-8 at the foul line.
  • Defensively, Hilbert forced 17 turnovers, finished with five team blocks and nine steals.
  • Nadege Durand (8 rebounds) and Maddie Sitler each chipped in 13 points to lead the Bobcats.
  • Greensburg sank 20-of-58 field goal attempts (34.5 percent) and only went to the charity stripe four time, but put them all in.
  • The Bobcats out rebounding Hilbert (41-34) with a 15-11 advantage on the offensive glass.
WHAT'S NEXT

Hilbert travels to Alfred, NY for the final AMCC game of the fall semester.  The Hawks will challenge Alfred State College (3-5, 1-3) Wednesday, December 18 with a 6:00 pm tip.
