Redhawks Fall To Wolverines In Non-Conference Action

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Roche women's lacrosse squared off against Grove City on Thursday afternoon, but were unable to get past the Wolverines, falling 16-3.

The Redhawks netted the first goal of the game, scoring just 14 seconds into the game, when Tea Smith scored, assisted by Isabella Fittipaldo.

Grove City would counter, rattling of 10 straight goal in the first to make it 10-1 going into the second, then scored a pair of goals in that second quarter to take a 12-1 lead into the half.

The Wolverines moved the lead to 13-1 with the first goal of the third.

La Roche ended the 13 unanswered goal stretch with 5:36 remaining in the third, when Jasey Reiser scored unassisted to make it 13-2.

Grove City closed the scoring in the third to take a 14-2 lead into the final quarter.

The final Redhawk goal came with 13:31 to go in the game, when Smith netted her second of the day, a free position goal to make it 14-3.

The Wolverines closed the contest with the final two goals to reach the eventual final score.

La Roche was outshot by Grove City 34-11 and 28-7 in shots on goal.

Smith was the team leader with four shots in the game and three shots on goal, with Reiser just behind with three shots and a pair on goal.

In net, Julianna Hornikel made 12 saves, facing 28 shots in the game, while also having a team-high four ground balls.

The Redhawks return to the field on Tuesday, Mar. 26 when they welcome Trinity (D.C.). Opening faceoff is set for 4 p.m.
