Hawks Celebrate Senior Day at Home

HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert College women's lacrosse team closed their 2018 season at home with a 16-9 NEAC loss to Wells College on a wet and very rainy afternoon.

The Hawks hosted a brief Senior Day celebration to honor their three seniors (Stephanie Cartonia, Brooklynn Gormel and Victoria Santos) prior to the game.

Gormel and freshman Aaryonah Vaughn posted a pair of goals while Ashley Binn and Alyssa Siracuse added the final two scores in the game.

Alayna DeFazio was credited with 10 saves in her first collegiate start in goal for the Hawks.

Calista Mis finished the game with four caused turnovers and two ground balls while Gormel led the ground effort with a team-high five ground balls.

Josephine Ban (five draw controls) and Sam Lawicki earned the two Hilbert assists.

Vaughn matched the Express' opening goal with a hit at 24:22.  Wells then went on a 13-1 (Binn's fourth goal of season) run to close the first half.

Hilbert trimmed the margin in the second half with a 4-goal effort. Gormel opened the second session and closed the game with her two goals while Vaughn and Siracuse filled in the middle.

The women's lacrosse team completed their first year under coach Emily Pasternak with a 1-14 overall record and went 0-9 in their second year competing in the NEAC league.
