Eight Run Eighth Inning Propels Redhawks Past Falcons 9-5

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – La Roche baseball took its second in a row on Tuesday night, defeating Albertus Magnus for the second time at the Ripken Experience, this time by a final score of 9-5.

The Falcons scored first this time around, as a two-run homer in the top of the first kick started a 2-0 lead.

The Redhawks would respond, cutting the deficit in half in the bottom of the first, as Danny Suarez went deep to make it 2-1.

Albertus Magnus was right back on the board in the top of the second, building a 4-1 lead after a two RBI double.

Pitchers took control from there, as only one run was scored between the third and seventh innings, as it was the Falcons doing so in the top of the seventh with an RBI single to make it 5-1.

La Roche had more heartbreaks than most in the first five games, being walk-off on four times, but tonight, it was the Redhawks coming through.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, after being held to just two hits between the second and seventh innings, put up an eight spot to blow past Albertus Magnus and take an eventual game sealing 9-5 lead.

La Roche got a lot of help from the Falcons pitchers, scoring the first four runs by way of a wild pitch, two bases loaded walks and a balk, all to tie the game 5-5.

Josh Dreyer then pulled through with a sacrifice bunt to bring in the leading run, then Suarez belted his second homer of the game, a three-run shot to close the scoring.

Larry Bielawski took the bump for the Redhawks, tossing seven innings, allowing five runs, seven hits, three walks and struck out six in the no decision.

Reed Bursic got the victory in relief, throwing two innings of shutout ball, allowing just two hits, one walk and three strikeouts.

Offensively, La Roche had five hits, with Suarez and Casey Jones both going 2-for-4 to lead the way.

The Redhawks return to the field on Thursday, Mar. 14 for a third meeting with Albertus Magnus. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
