HAMBURG, N.Y. – Hilbert College hosted it's 2016 home opener in women's volleyball tonight and came away with a 3-0 loss to Alfred State College.
After suffering two early losses (25-15, 25-14) the Hawks battled back in the third set in hopes of extending the match against the Pioneers.
The Hawks rallied, down by a double-digit score and cut the score to two points (24-22). Alfred State won the set/match off a late game kill.
Amanda Binder and
Serena Tecl made things exciting in the third set lifting Hilbert back with multiple back-to-back kills.
Binder earned game-high honors with 11 kills (three service aces) and Tecl added eight with most of the passes coming from
Morgan Ott's 21 assists.
Victoria Siracuse collected eight digs and
Ashley Repine earned a pair of solo blocks.
A-State finished the match with a .252 attack percentage and 11 service aces.
Hilbert earned 28 kills and matched the Pioneers with four blocks.
With a big weekend ahead of them, Hilbert travels to Steubenville, OH for their first AMCC cross over weekend of action. The Hawks face Pitt-Greensburg at 1pm and then the host, Franciscan at 3:30pm in Finnegan Fieldhouse.
