Men's Soccer Unable to Hold Off Highlanders

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's soccer team hit the road on Tuesday night as they traveled to Houghton for a non-conference tilt with the Highlanders. The Panthers were unable to break through the Houghton midfield as they fell 4-0.

The Panthers seemed to be under pressure at the start as the Highlanders put two shots towards goal in the first three minutes of play. The Panthers earned a corner in the 6th minute but were unable to take advantage as Austin Hogan's shot went over the net. The hosts resumed their attack just after the corner, forcing goalkeeper Trevor Clark into 4 early saves. The Panthers were unable to hold off Houghton for long, however, as the hosts were able to open the scoring in the 19th minute. After the goal, the Panthers were kept in the defensive end but were able to hold the Highlanders off the board in the half. Pitt-Bradford was able to foray forward as Lysandre Chaabi was able to take two shots, putting on on goal and forcing a Houghton save in the 42nd minute.

After the break, the hosts maintained control of the game, keeping the ball in the final third for the majority of the half. Clark made 7 saves early in the half but was unable to keep the Highlanders off the board as they broke through in the 75th minute and quickly scored 3 goals in a 4-minute span to expand their advantage to 4 goals. The Panthers' best chance to score came in the 81st minute as they were awarded a penalty kick for a handball inside the 18. Rodney Walker stepped up to take the kick but sent his shot over the upper corner for a goal kick.

The Panthers were only able to muster 4 shots in the game, only putting one on target. Lysandre Chaabi led with 2 shots and had the only attempt on goal. Austin Hogan and Rodney Walker also had shots in the game. Trevor Clark made 13 saves in the loss.

The Panthers' record is now 2-8 on the season. They will return to AMCC play over the weekend when they host the defending champions, Mount Aloysius, at 2:00 p.m. at the Kessel Athletic Complex.
