Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's Lacrosse Suffered Second-Half Slump at Alfred

ALFRED, N.Y. – Hilbert's Marissa Huffman led with four goals yet the women's lacrosse team suffered a 17-10 road loss at Alfred University this afternoon.

The Hawks trailed 9-8 after 30-minutes of action.  The Saxons posted two quick scores at the start of the second half and then held on for the win.

Huffman's single-game scoring performance today was one-goal shy of her season total in 2016.   Emily Gawlak added a pair of goals and assisted on three other Hilbert hits while Brooklynn Gormel tossed in two markers.

Gawlak continues to be impressive as her 12 personal draw control wins matched the entire Alfred team's efforts this afternoon.

Taylor Corts and Crystle Marion also earned their first collegiate goals both finding the back of the net in first half action.

The Hawks trailed 7-4 then they turned up the pressure.  Gawlak, Corts and Huffman each scored unassisted goals which forced a 7-7 tie and then Gawlak assisted on
Huffman's second of the game with just over 1 minute left in the first half.  Alfred closed the period with two scores 25-seconds apart for the 9-8 advantage by the break.

The Saxons went on a 6-1 run at the start of the second half taking control of the game.

Ashley Repine was credited with eight saves while the Saxon's goalie was impressive managing to collect 21 saves.

The Hawks out-shot Alfred (40-35/31-25 on goal) and matched their efforts in ground balls (27 each).  Hilbert gave up eight free position shots to Alfred which they turned into four goals.

The Hawks (0-2) return to action this weekend when they travel to Morrisville Friday, March 31 for a 4pm NEAC contest.  Hilbert will then turnaround and host their first NEAC HOME league game Saturday, April 1st (7pm) against Cazenovia at Dobson Field.  Be on the look-out for the live stream video links which will be posted soon.
