Crusaders Rout La Roche to Clinch Series

March 13, 2024

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas softball team won their non-conference game against La Roche University on Wednesday, clinching their first series of the season and improving to 3-10 on the year.

Dallas 12, La Roche 1 (5 Innings)

WP: Ava Trevino (1-4)

LP: Maura Wade (1-3)

Early on it looked like the game could go either way, but SunnyDale Thies did well to get out of some early jams to hold the Redhawks scoreless.

La Roche led off the game with back to back singles, but could do nothing with them as Thies set the next three batters down in order.  The Crusaders took a 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI groundout by Katie Duffy-Relf, driving Abby Lasley who led off the inning with a double.

The Redhawks led off the third inning once again with back to back hits, and once again couldn't get them across the plate.  Thies retired the next three batters in a row, holding La Roche scoreless through three.

The dam burst in the bottom of the third as Dallas piled on eight runs, all eight coming with two outs.  The Crusaders racked up six hits in the inning, but took full advantage of three errors by the Redhawks in the inning; all of the runs would go down as unearned.

Dallas added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth.  Though the Redhawks would end the shutout in the fifth, it wasn't enough to extend the game as they only managed to scrape across one consolation run.

Abby Lasley ended the series 7-of-12 at the plate with four runs scored, three RBI, and two stolen bases.  She will enter conference play this Saturday hitting .449 on the year with an OPS of .970.
