AMCC ANNOUNCES ATHLETES OF THE WEEK FOR DECEMBER 2-8, 2024

The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) has announced its Athletes of the Week selections in the sports of men's & women's basketball, wrestling and swimming & diving for the period running from December 2-8, 2024. 

Women's Swimming: Alfred State JR Mallory O'Keefe set two new pool records while earning three first place finishes this past weekend. She was the anchor leg of the 200 free relay that set a pool record with a time of 1:40.06. She followed with a pool record in the 100 fly after touching the why in 58.90. She also came in first place in the 50 butterfly with a time of 26.56 to end the weekend.

Women's Diving: Alfred State FR Shelby Nerber took home wins on both boards at Fredonia. She won the 3-meter with a 142.80, and followed with a 134.40 win on the 1 meter.

Men's Swimming: Alfred State SR Derek Mrachko earned two individual and one relay first place finishes at Fredonia this past week. Mrachko took first place in both the 100 butterfly and 100 IM with respective times of 59.54 and 58.89. He was also a part of the 200 freestyle relay, who took 1st place with a time of 1:33.07.

Men's Diving: Alfred State SR Bryan Reichert came in second place in the 1-meter and 3-meter dives at Fredonia with respective scores of 218.30 and 196.95.

Women's Basketball: Alfred State G Taylor Benjamin led the Pioneers last week after averaging 15.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 7.5 assists and 3.0 assists, while shooting 50% from the field. She opened her week with a 15 point game against Hilbert, while also adding seven assists, four rebounds, and three steals. She followed with a double-double against La Roche where she tallied 16 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists.

Men's Basketball: La Roche G Joe Starzynski had a standout week for the Redhawks despite two tough losses. Against Mount Aloysius on Wednesday, Starzynski shot 9-for-15 from the floor to net 27 points, alongside eight rebounds, four assists and four blocks. He followed that performance on Saturday against Alfred State with 16 points on 5-for-8 shooting, seven rebounds, three assists and four more blocks. For the week, Starzynski shot 60.9% from the field, averaged 21.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 4.0 blocks per game.

Men's Wrestling: Penn FR Carter Davis (165) captured the 165-pound title at the Elizabethtown Blue Jay Classic with a perfect 5-0 day, including three falls, a decision, and a 12-2 major decision in the finals. Davis' finish helped Penn College to a runner-up finish in an 11-team field.

Women's Wrestling: PS-Altoona FR Maya Barrios (124) went 3-0 for the Lions in Sunday's Muhlenberg Novice Tournament, earning all three wins by pin.
