AMCC ANNOUNCES ATHLETES OF THE WEEK FOR MARCH 31-APRIL 6, 2025

The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) has announced its Athletes of the Week selections in the sports of men's & women's lacrosse, men's volleyball, tennis and baseball, and women's softball for the period running from March 31-April 6, 2025.

Men's Volleyball (Offensive): PS-Altoona OPP Caleb Fries had another great week to help the Lions go 2-0 in AMCC play to finish out their regular season. In Tuesday night's 3-2 home win over Mount Aloysius, the freshman totaled 28 points on 22 kills, eight block assists, one solo block, and one service ace. He followed that up with 15 points on 12 kills, two aces, and a solo block in Friday night's home 3-0 victory over Houghton. On the week, Fries totaled 43 points (5.4 points per set), 34 kills (4.25 kills per set), 10 total blocks (1.25 blocks per set), and three aces (0.38 aces per set). He also swung at a .294 attack percentage.

Men's Volleyball (Defensive): PS-Behrend MH Joseph Sciscio averaged 1.29 blocks per set in a 3-1 week for the Lions. He tallied 14 blocks assists and four solo for 18 blocks total. In the win over Grove City, Sciscio posted eight block assists and one solo. He also added 12 kills and hit .372.

Women's Lacrosse (Offensive): La Roche A Jasey Reiser had yet another fantastic offensive week for the Redhawks as they went 2-0. In Wednesday's win over Ursuline, Reiser came through with seven goals, three assists, two ground balls, 11 draw controls and one caused turnover. She followed that performance in Saturday's win over Alfred State with two goals, four assists, two ground balls and three more draw controls. For the week, Reiser scored nine goals, added seven assists, totaled 16 points, had four ground balls, 14 draw controls and the caused turnover.

Women's Lacrosse (Defensive): La Roche M Kiki Nemcek dominated on the defensive end for the Redhawks in their 2-0 week. In Wednesday's victroy over Ursuline, Nemcek scooped up seven ground balls, picked up five draw controls and caused four turnovers, while scoring a pair of goals. In Saturday's win over Alfred State, she added another five ground balls, six caused turnovers, a draw control and scored two more goals. For the week, she finished with 12 ground balls, 10 caused turnovers, six draw controls and four goals. Nemcek is currently tied second nationally in caused turnovers per game at 3.78.

Men's Lacrosse (Offensive): Alfred State M Griffin Doan helped led the Pioneers to a 2-0 week after netting nine goals and nine assists, with 18 ground balls. Against Hiram, he tallied a hat trick with three assists and five ground ball. He followed with a six goal, six assist game against La Roche, while also picking up 13 ground balls.

Men's Lacrosse (Defensive): Pitt-Bradford GK Evan Stack went 2-0 last week, including a crucial 7-6 win over Hilbert in AMCC play. He stopped 69.7% of the shots that he faced, making 23 saves and allowing just 10 goals over the two games.

Softball (Player): PS-Altoona INF Alyssa Fisher had a great week at the plate, including three multi-hit games, to help propel the Lions to doubleheader sweeps of AMCC opponents La Roche and Alfred State. In Tuesday's home sweep of La Roche, she combined to hit 3-for-6 with four runs scored, one double, one RBI, and one stolen base. On Friday, in a road sweep of Alfred State, she went 6-for-8 with five RBI, four runs scored, three doubles, two stolen bases, and one triple. On the week, Fisher batted .643 (9-for-14) with eight runs scored, six RBI, four doubles, three stolen bases, one triple, and one walk.

Softball (Pitcher): PS-Altoona SO Josselyn Nau went 3-0 with a save while making two starts and two relief appearances for the Lions last week, when her team went 4-0 against AMCC opponents La Roche and Alfred State. In game one of Tuesday's home doubleheader against La Roche, she pitched a complete game and held the Redhawks to three runs while securing the win. Nau tossed a scoreless final inning in game two, protecting the lead and recording the save. In game one at Alfred State on Friday, Nau pitched another complete game, blanking the Pioneers across five innings of work to earn the victory. She pitched two scoreless innings in relief in game two and got the win as the Lions rallied to victory. On the week, Nau pitched 14 innings, had a 1.50 ERA and 0.86 WHIP, and struck out nine batters.

Baseball (Player): PS-Altoona UTIL Jake Hillard had a great day at the plate in the Lions' doubleheader sweep of AMCC opponent La Roche on Tuesday, combining to go 5-for-8 (.625) with five runs scored, five RBI, two doubles, a home run, a walk, and a stolen base.

Baseball (Pitcher): PS-Altoona SR Corey Chamberlain tossed a complete game for his first collegiate win last Tuesday in game one of the Lions' doubleheader sweep at AMCC opponent La Roche. The right-hander gave up just one run, five hits, and no walks while recording six strikeouts.

Men's Tennis: PS-Altoona SR Casey Hess had a dominant week for the Lions, surrendering just two games in a combined nine sets in singles and doubles. In a win at non-conference opponent Lycoming on Friday night, he had a 6-1, 6-0 win in No. 1 singles and a 6-1 victory at No. 1 doubles. In Sunday's doubleheader sweep at AMCC foe Pitt-Greensburg, he won both of his No. 1 singles matches by 6-0, 6-0 decisions, and was also part of a pair of 6-0 wins at No. 1 doubles. The senior went 3-0 overall in No. 1 singles and 3-0 in No. 1 doubles.
