AMCC ANNOUNCES ATHLETES OF THE WEEK FOR APRIL 15-21, 2024

The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) has announced its Athletes of the Week selections in the sports of men's and women's track & field, men's baseball and women's softball and lacrosse for the period running from April 15-21, 2024.

Baseball (Player): Hilbert OF Nolan Evans powered the Hawks to a 5-1 week in league play, propelling them to sole possession of second place in league standings. The junior centerfielder had three multi-hit games and finished the week with a .435 batting average and 1.000 slugging percentage. Evans tallied six extra base hits, including three home runs, while driving in nine runs and scoring eight more. His biggest hit coming in the bottom of the 7th of game one against top seeded Mount Aloysius when he belted a game-tying three-run home run to send the game to extras where the Hawks walked it off in the ninth. Evans now leads the AMCC in league play in triples (2), home runs (4), extra base hits (9), slugging percentage (.854) and OPS (1.345) over 12 games played.

Baseball (Pitcher): Pitt-Bradford JR Shawn Mannering had a big week for Pitt-Bradford, picking up two complete game victories over Penn State Behrend and Pitt-Greensburg. Mannering allowed just three earned runs over 14 innings pitched to post a 1.93 ERA while striking out 10 batters. In the win over the Lions, Mannering scattered six hits, allowed one earned run, and struck out five.

Softball (Player): PS-Behrend OF Sierra Williams hit .615/.667/1.154 in a 6-0 week for the Lions, improving the team's record to 12-0 to remain in first place of the AMCC standings. Williams registered eight hits, including five extra-base hits, and drove in 10 runs while scoring six. The centerfielder smacked three doubles and two triples and walked twice. Williams had four RBI on two hits vs. Pitt-Bradford (game two) and went 4-for-6 with four RBI, three runs scored and a triple against Altoona.

Softball (Pitcher): PS-Behrend SO Abby Tingley registered a 1.11 ERA in a 3-0 week in the circle, allowing three earned runs and fanning 17 batters while allowing just one walk in AMCC action. She threw three complete games, including a one-hit shutout and struck out eight against Pitt-Bradford and then picked up a 5-2 win against Altoona in the Game of the Week. 

Men's Track & Field (Track): Alfred State FR Mekhi Christensen finished first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.20. He followed with a fifth place finish in the long jump with a best jump of 6.12 meters.

Men's Track & Field (Field): PS-Behrend SR Dan Dabrowski notched a record-setting first-place distance of 170-2 on his sixth throw of the day at the John Papa Invitational, surpassing his previous school record of 167-9 set last season. He once again delivered a first-place finish in the discus at Geneseo, throwing a distance of 170-1.

Women's Track & Field (Track): Carlow SR Molly Wagner placed fourth and fifth in the 100 and 00 with times of 12.65 and 26.28, respectively and was also part of the 4x100 relay team that finished third with a time of 51.74 as the Celtics competed against 16 other colleges and universities across all three NCAA divisions.

Women's Track & Field (Field): Alfred State JR Madison Snayczuk topped all jumpers in the long jump with a jump of 5.14 meters. She also finished first in the triple jump with a jump of 10.78 meters. 

Women's Lacrosse (Offensive): Wells M Lydia Thomas had another strong week for an Express team that picked up victories over Hilbert and Mount Aloysius en-route to securing a 6-0 conference record and the 2024 AMCC Regular Season Title. During the three-game week, Thomas kept up her streak of offensive dominance, scoring nine goals and recording five assists while also nabbing 13 ground balls to pair with five draw controls. In the two title-clinching performances vs the Hawks and Mounties, Thomas found the cage for seven scores and five assists to go along with some excellent marks in the field as she tallied eight ground balls and three draw controls. Thomas and the Express locked up the #1 seed in the AMCC tournament.

Women's Lacrosse (Defensive): Wells GK Lauren Spiegel had a strong defensive week for an Express team that defeated Hilbert and Mount Aloysius to finish AMCC play with a 6-0 record and become the 2024 AMCC Regular Season Champions. In the two conference matchups, Spiegel made 10 saves and posted a 58.8% save percentage while only allowing seven goals for a 3.68 goals allowed average. Spiegel's excellent control in front of the pipes allowed the Express to secure the AMCC Regular Season Crown. Spiegel and the Express will be the #1 seed in the upcoming AMCC Women's Lacrosse Tournament.
