AMCC ANNOUNCES ATHLETES OF THE WEEK FOR SEPTEMBER 30-OCTOBER 6, 2019

The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) has announced its Athletes of the Week selections in the sports of men's and women's soccer, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's tennis, women's volleyball, and men's golf for the period running from September 30-October 6, 2019.

Men's Soccer (Offensive): Medaille M Mitchell Ali collected three more goals and an assist this past week. Ali took part in two of the three goals scored against Alfred State in the 3-0 win and two of the four against Altoona in the 4-0 win. Ali currently leads the AMCC with 11 goals and 25 points on the season.

Men's Soccer (Defensive): PS-Behrend D Nick Schwarzel scored the eventual game-winning goal vs. Franciscan on a penalty kick on Saturday. He also led the defense that shut out D'Youville, allowing just five shots on Wednesday for the team's sixth shutout of the season.

Women's Soccer (Offensive): PS-Behrend F Brenna McGuire started in two games for the Lions this week tallying three goals, including one game-winner. She scored both of her team's goals against D'Youville on Tuesday in a 2-1 win in double OT. McGuire scored a goal with seven minutes remaining in the game to force overtime and again to seal the win in the second overtime. McGuire also scored a goal against Franciscan in a 2-1 win.

Women's Soccer (Defensive): La Roche GK Isabelle Orange helped the Redhawks to a 2-0 week, recording six saves in 180 minutes of play-time, including a 1-0 overtime victory vs. Mt. Aloysius. The victory against Mt. Aloysius is Orange's second shutout win this season and the third of her career.

Women's Volleyball: Mt. Aloysius OH Ashlee Parrish helped the Mounties to a 2-0 week in AMCC play. She hit .393 on the week, with 28 kills and only six hitting errors. For the week, she averaged 3.50 kills per set, 0.63 service aces per set, and 4.3 points per set. Parrish currently ranks first in total kills, during AMCC matches, with 56 kills through four contests.

Men's Tennis: Pitt-Greensburg SO Turner Price put together an incredible performance against Penn State Altoona as he did not drop a single game in both his singles and doubles matches. In doubles, along with partner Vaughn Hunkele, Price recorded an 8-0 win and in singles play, Price won 6-0, 6-0.

Women's Tennis: PS-Altoona JR Sophia Girol continued her great season this past week, as she went a combined 6-0 in singles and doubles play. Girol went 3-0 in No. 2 doubles and 3-0 in No. 3 and No. 4 singles against AMCC opponents La Roche, Pitt-Bradford, and Pitt-Greensburg.

Men's Cross Country: D'Youville SR Patrick Moran had another strong race for the Spartans, taking first overall at the Meghan Memorial. Moran finished the Meghan Memorial 5k with a time of 16:46 - the fastest time of all participating runners. The next runner from a participating team finished over two minutes behind Moran. In every race this season, Moran has finished first overall for the men and he owns the records for the 5K and 8K races.

Women's Cross Country: D'Youville JR Rachel Luczak had an outstanding weekend for the Spartans, helping lead the team to a first place finish at the Meghan Memorial. Luczak finished first overall, crossing the finish line over a minute better than the next runner. In addition to her first place finish, the Spartans as a whole finished first overall with a team score of 28 - 15 points better than the second place team. In the last four races, Luczak has been the top runner for the women and has been one of the top runners for the women throughout her career as a Spartan.
