MEDAILLE COLLEGE CELEBRATES OPENING OF MEDAILLE SPORTS COMPLEX

It's the first time in the history of the Medaille College Mavericks that their soccer and lacrosse teams can claim home-field advantage in a game.  Yesterday it became possible with the grand opening of the Medaille Sports Complex at 427 Elk Street.  The $4 million project is part of the redevelopment of the former Buffalo Color Park by South Buffalo Development.

Medaille officials were joined by their student-athletes, faculty and elected officials for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the Complex's grand opening.  The celebration was followed by men's and women's soccer games against Thiel College.

The Medaille Sports Complex features a field with nearly 100,000 square feet of 2 ½" thick turf – the best concussion-rated product on the market, bleachers for 500 and an LED-lit scoreboard.  The Complex includes a 14,000 sq. ft. building that includes four home and away locker rooms, two officials locker rooms, a strength and conditioning room, offices and classrooms. It also includes a concession stand.

The field is used by Medaille's men's and women's soccer and lacrosse teams.  It is leased to outside leagues for soccer, flag football, and kickball.

Medaille competes at the NCAA Division III level as a member of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference.   Over the past two decades, Medaille's soccer teams have won 16 championships, and the lacrosse teams have won two championships.
