FALL SPORT TEAMS GEAR UP FOR NCAA, ECAC POSTSEASONS

While the fall sports season has just about ended for most teams, there are several AMCC teams gearing up for yet another game, and what most would consider as the most exciting time of the year. The Penn State Behrend men's soccer and volleyball teams and the Pitt-Greensburg women's soccer team have all earned bids to the NCAA tournament. While the Behrend women's soccer and Penn State Altoona women's volleyball have each earned ECAC berths. 

The No. 20 Penn State Behrend men's soccer team will travel to Gambier, Ohio to take on the No. 9 Kenyon College Lords in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament on Saturday, November 16 at Mavec Field, beginning at 11 a.m. This will be their eighth appearance in the NCAA Tournament, including three times in the past four years. The Behrend Lions (19-1) earned the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) automatic bid to the NCAA's with a 1-0 win over Medaille on Saturday in the title game, avenging their only loss this season. The Lords enter their seventh-straight NCAA Tournament with a 17-1-2 record. Kenyon earned its spot in the national tournament with a 2-1 win over Ohio Wesleyan in Saturday's North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) championship game on Saturday.

The Pitt-Greensburg women's soccer team will travel to Chicago, Ill and face the University of Chicago in the first round of the 2019 NCAA Division III Tournament, Saturday afternoon at 1 pm. The Bobcats (19-0-1) are making the program's first-ever appearance in the 64-team tournament, earning an automatic bid after recording a 3-2 victory over Penn State Behrend Saturday afternoon in the AMCC Championship match. The No. 16 ranked University of Chicago (12-2-3) earned a Pool C at-large bid and were selected to host a four-team pod that also includes Augsburg (14-3-2) and Rose-Hulman (15-4-1). Augsburg and Rose-Hulam will face each other Saturday at 2:30 pm, with the two first round winners facing off in the regional championship, Sunday at 2 pm.

The Penn State Behrend women's volleyball team will travel to Baltimore, Maryland and the campus of Johns Hopkins University to take on the Stockton University Ospreys (30-3) in the first round of the 2019 NCAA Division III Tournament on Friday at 5:30 p.m. The Lions (19-10) are making their fourth appearance in the 64-team tournament, earning the automatic bid after winning their fifth AMCC Championship with a 3-0 win over Pitt-Bradford on Sunday. The No. 6 Blue Jays will host the eight-team NCAA Regional with other first-round matches including No. 16 Susquehanna (31-6) vs. Westminster (PA) (26-6) at 12:30 p.m., No. 19 Carnegie Mellon (22-7) vs. Stevens (20-11) at 3 p.m., and lastly Johns Hopkins vs. Manhattanville (24-5) at 8 p.m.

The Penn State Behrend women's soccer team earned a bid to the 2019 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Women's Soccer Championship, announced on Monday. The Lions (10-7-2) earned the No. 4 seed in Pod 1 and will travel to No. 1 McDaniel College (13-6) on Saturday at 11 a.m.  The winner of this matchup will face off against the winner of No. 2 Pfeiffer and No. 3 Shenandoah. This game will take place at McDaniel on Sunday at 12 p.m.

The Penn State Altoona women’s volleyball team has been selected to compete in the 2019 Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Women’s Volleyball Championship Tournament. This marks the seventh time in Penn State Altoona women’s volleyball program history that it has earned a berth into an ECAC postseason tournament. The team’s most recent ECAC Tournament appearance was at the end of the 2017 season. The 2019 tournament bracket consists of a 12-team field, with matchups divided into four pods. Penn State Altoona took the No. 4 seed in Pod 4, and the Lady Lions will travel to play the pod’s No. 1 seed, Grove City College, this Wednesday, November 13 at 7:00 p.m. for a first round match.
