MEDAILLE'S AMY DEKAY TO STEP DOWN AS ATHLETIC DIRECTOR

Medaille College Director of Athletics Amy DeKay announced internally on October 25, 2018 that she would be stepping down at the conclusion of the spring semester and continuing senior leadership as the Vice President for Student Development.  The news became official this past week with the posting for her replacement.  A member of the Medaille College Class of 1995, DeKay has been a part of the Mavericks fabric since their inception in 1996.

Since DeKay took over as the Director of Athletics in 2013, Medaille has won 10 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Regular Season Championships, five AMCC Tournament Championships, two North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Regular Season Championships, two NEAC Tournament Championships, and has seen three teams qualify for the NCAA Tournament.

Under her reign, the College has also won the Buffalo Cup the last two years since its inception.  DeKay has overseen the first addition to the Athletic Department in years with Medaille Men's Tennis kicking off their inaugural season this month and men's and women's swimming and diving slated for club level Fall 2019; varsity Fall 2020.

DeKay's appointment as AD was touted as a move to emphasize the student and her work to transform the department has focused on just that.  DeKay has led the Mavericks to an 89% retention rate, a 10% increase, and a 20% increase in the number of students on the Academic All-Conference Team.  This would culminate in the College receiving the first ever AMCC Institutional Peak Performer Award in 2017, given to the AMCC school with the highest percentage of student-athletes on the AMCC Academic All-Conference Team, and a number of Team Peak Performer Awards over the last several years.  In addition to focusing on the enrolled student-athlete, DeKay worked to recognize alumni and major contributors, establishing the College's inaugural hall of fame class this past fall honoring five inductees.

DeKay's leadership of the Mavericks ends not just on an academic and competitive high point, but she has worked with leadership in seeing the Mavericks through the completion of the College's multi-million dollar athletic complex, which will host the first NCAA competition lacrosse games on Sunday, March 3rd.
