D'YOUVILLE ATHLETICS COMMITTEE HELPS SUPPORT BPAL THROUGH BUFFALO CUP

The D’Youville College Athletics Committee helped to raise money for the Buffalo Police Athletic League through promoting a local rivalry on Wednesday, October 19.

D’Youville, Hilbert College, and Medaille College are all participating in the Buffalo Cup, a competition between the three schools in which points are awarded for conference victories to each of the teams. Last Wednesday, D’Youville hosted Hilbert for a men’s and women’s soccer doubleheader where Buffalo Cup t-shirts were sold to help raise money for the BPAL.

President of the Athletics Committee and D'Youville women’s basketball team member Ali Cochrane helped organize the event, as well as helped create the t-shirts.

“We wanted to give back to local youth sports and encourage healthy competition,” said Cochrane. “Not only were we able to promote the Buffalo Cup, but we were able to raise money for a great cause and show school spirit at the same time.”

The t-shirts were sold on campus and at the game on Wednesday, raising just under $750. On Wednesday, October 26, the D’Youville women’s volleyball team will be hosting Hilbert once again in another Buffalo Cup competition.

The Buffalo Police Athletic League is a non-for-profit organization that combines youth sports with local law enforcement to help provide educational and recreational sporting activities for the local youth of Buffalo. Their goal is to also offer quality social and cultural experiences to all participants.

Hilbert and Medaille have been in great support of the selling of the Buffalo Cup t-shirts, especially at the recent home D’Youville soccer games.

“The Hilbert fans and parents also purchased shirts from us,” said Cochrane. “It was great to see that despite the two schools competing on the field, fans and parents of both schools were willing to come together for such a great cause.”

T-shirts are being sold for $5 and will be on sale again against Hilbert on Wednesday, October 26in the College Center Gym at 7pm.
